The Chemistry Department plays a vital role in providing quality education in chemical sciences. The Department of Chemistry is one of the esteemed department of the college. It was established in 1998. The Department offers a three years B.Sc. degree UG Program and two years M. Sc. Inorganic Chemistry PG Program with a balanced focus on theoretical knowledge and practical skills. In addition, it offers core and open elective courses in chemistry and allied areas for undergraduate B.Sc. courses in the College.
Experienced and well qualified faculty members guide students in academics, laboratory work, seminars, and research activities. The department encourages student participation in projects, workshops, conferences, industrial visits, and competitive examinations. Emphasis is given to research, innovation, and application of chemistry in areas such as pharmaceuticals, environmental science, food processing, Nanotechnology and material science.
The department has two well- equipped laboratories along with an instrumentation laboratory that houses modern instruments, such as U.V.-Visible Spectrophotometer, Flame Photometers, Potentiometers, pH meters and colorimeters etc. The department is keen in adapting new innovation techniques in learning and encourages students to take active part in research.
The Department has taken up some of the additional curriculum programmes like Guest Lectures, Extension Lectures, Field Trips, Group Discussions and Quiz’s to enrich the student knowledge. Overall, the Chemistry Department aims to develop scientific temperament, analytical thinking, and practical competence among students, preparing them for higher studies, research, and careers in industry and education
